Why we book forty minutes
Most practices book twenty. Here is the arithmetic behind doubling it.

A twenty-minute check-up works right up until it does not. One unexpected finding and the whole day runs late, which means every patient after you is either rushed or waiting.
What the extra twenty buys
Time to explain a finding properly. Time to take a second look at something ambiguous rather than booking you back. Time for the person who arrives already frightened to sit down for a minute first.
What it costs
Fewer patients per day. That is the entire trade, and it is why we are not the cheapest practice in the area. We think it is the right one, but we would rather state it plainly than pretend there is no cost.
